About The Position

The Monitor Technician is a trained member of the nursing team within the Telemetry department. Monitor Technicians provide 24/7 telemetry monitoring and observation for inpatients from all disciplines throughout the hospital. The department focus is aiding in identification and prevention of acute medical events by providing monitoring across multiple platforms, and to help ensure our patients receive the highest possible care available. The Telemetry department strives to maintain the most updated evidence-based practices and equipment needed to facilitate our goals. Monitor Technicians are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team approach we implement at UAMS.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED, PLUS one year direct patient care related experience.
• Current certification or competency of EKG acquisition
• PCT certified within three (3) months of hire (training provided).
• Must complete the dysrhythmia course within 90 day evaluation period and maintain competency as a telemetry technician.
• Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.
• Microsoft Office experience
• EPIC EMR
• Kronos
• Certified as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.
• Current BLS.
• Certification in EKG or Dysrhythmia course.
• Must be able to lift 100 pounds
• Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor patients’ cardiac rhythms and telemetry readings.
• Identify and recognize abnormal cardiac rhythms, arrhythmias, and significant rhythm changes.
• Promptly notify nursing staff of critical or abnormal findings.
• Maintain accurate documentation of monitored rhythms and significant events.
• Perform rhythm strips and provide them to clinical staff as required.
• Monitor multiple patients simultaneously while maintaining close attention to changes in condition.
• Verify proper telemetry connections and troubleshoot monitoring equipment when necessary.
• Apply and replace telemetry electrodes according to hospital procedures.
• Maintain organized and accurate patient monitoring records.
• Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Respond appropriately to monitor alarms and determine whether intervention or notification is needed.
• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes related to telemetry monitoring.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
• Follow hospital policies, infection-control procedures, and patient-safety standards.
• Report equipment malfunctions and assist with maintaining monitoring equipment.
• Maintain competency in cardiac rhythm recognition and telemetry-monitoring procedures.
• Demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to remain focused in a fast-paced clinical environment.
