About The Position

This position is responsible for the monitoring and assessment of patients on cardiac monitoring devices throughout the EHC organization, including telemetry transmitters and hard-wired monitors. The role requires training in ECG interpretation and involves continuous monitoring of all telemetry rhythms, interpreting rhythm strips, measuring specific waveform intervals, and professionally interacting with nursing staff and physicians for rhythm identification and notification of deviations from baseline. Additionally, the Monitor Tech is responsible for initiating baseline data collection for each event.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • General knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Completion of an approved educational diploma program in ECG/EKG, Cardiology, or Emergency Medical Services (may be waived with experience).
  • One (1) year experience as a Monitor Tech, Critical Care Tech, or Patient Care Tech in a hospital (may be substituted with Two (2) years of experience in an acute clinical care setting or Two (2) years’ experience as an emergency medical technician).
  • Current AHA/ARC BLS certification.
  • Successful completion of post-hire 4-6 week Telemetry Clinical Orientation.
  • Passing score on the ECG written exam (Rhythm Interpretation) within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Successful completion of hands-on clinical competencies during the orientation period.
  • Ability to effectively monitor patient cardiac rhythms via telemetry or hardwired monitor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with nursing staff, providers, patients, and staff through written and verbal means in a high workflow environment.
  • Ability to maintain patient monitoring log and document rhythms in medical records.
  • Ability to label telemetry strips with rhythm interpretation, ventricular rate, and measure PR, QT, and ST segment intervals.
  • Ability to scan / upload monitored strips every 4 hours, in addition to as needed requests as appropriate based on assigned unit and patient acuity as relayed by nursing staff.
  • Ability to maintain established alarm limit / parameter settings on all patients assigned.
  • Proficiency demonstrated to Departmental Educator / Manager using GE, Airstrip, and Ascom clinical platforms.
