Continuously observes patients heart activity and vital signs, interpreting data and notifying medical staff of abnormalities. This role involves continuous ECG monitoring through assessment of EKG strips and accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias, including measurement of P-R intervals, QRS widths, and ST segment deviations. The technician will troubleshoot monitoring problems, identify causes, and seek solutions. Responsibilities include maintaining inventories, supplies, hardware, and telemetry transmitters, ensuring they are in working condition and reporting malfunctions promptly. Accurate documentation and measurement of cardiac rhythms are essential, with ensured placement in the medical record. The role also involves maintaining hardware, telemetry transmitters, and tracking telemetry locations. Timely communication of pertinent patient information, including changes in cardiac rhythm and dysrhythmias, to the nurse is crucial. The technician will serve as a resource for staff, students, and float personnel in identifying and interpreting cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias. Demonstrating and maintaining skills to assess basic cardiac rhythms, including pulse oximetry, is required. Maintaining par levels of inventories, supplies, telemetry transmitters, and associated equipment, and performing unit secretarial functions as needed (answering phone, stuffing charts, answering call-lights, placing order entries) are also part of the role. Competency in accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias and interval measurements is required at time of hire and annually thereafter.
