About The Position

As a Monitor Tech, you will be responsible for continuous observation and analysis of patients' cardiac rhythms to detect and report changes. Every day you will meticulously monitor EKG strips, identify arrhythmias, measure intervals, and promptly communicate critical findings to nursing staff and healthcare providers, ensuring accurate documentation. To be successful, you will demonstrate sharp observational skills, a thorough understanding of cardiac rhythms, and the ability to act quickly and precisely under pressure, crucial for patient safety and timely intervention.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate General Studies or 2 years equivalent work experience. , upon hire or High School GED General Studies or 2 years equivalent work experience. , upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
  • Able to interpret dysrhythmias on the cardiac monitor required

Nice To Haves

  • Quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor rhythm changes and dysrhythmias.
  • Assign a telemetry box to patients who have telemetry orders.
  • Add patient demographics into the central monitor.
  • Continuously monitor rhythms for changes.
  • Run telemetry strips and provide interpretation per policy and prn with rhythm change.
  • Notify nursing staff with any change in rhythm.
  • Monitor patients in the appropriate lead that reflects goals of monitoring such as potential areas of ischemia, infarction, or ectopy.
  • Record admission cardiac rhythm.
  • Review and set alarm limits at the beginning of each shift.
  • Respond to all indicated alarm situations by running strips immediately.
  • Notify RN of all significant rhythm changes.
  • Remain at the console at all times unless relieved by monitor-trained personnel.
  • Keep the monitor station clean at all times.
  • Track and maintain telemetry transmitters.
  • Notify the nurse in charge and/or manager of monitor malfunction and enter a work order into the computer.
  • Answer all telephone calls directed to the unit within the first three rings, stating the department name, your name, and "How may I help you."
  • Answer and direct patient lights/calls appropriately.
  • Respond to all inquiries in a kind and compassionate fashion.
  • Direct requests for patient information to the appropriate individuals.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings.
  • Compile paper documents for retrieval by HIM.
