About The Position

The Monitor Technician I is responsible for recording electrocardiograms (EKGs) for patients of all ages, from newborn to geriatric. This role involves ensuring EKGs are transmitted from cart to the MUSE EKG Computer System using patient identifiers, placing telemetry transmitter packs, and communicating with the monitor technician for signal verification. The technician will also deliver cardiac rhythm strips from the Cardiac monitoring station to nursing units and post them in designated locations during medical record downtime. Additional duties include troubleshooting telemetry transmitter packs (e.g., replacing electrodes, batteries, wires) and assisting in the search and retrieval of misplaced telemetry transmitter packs and cardiac pacemakers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire - required
  • Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees and others.
  • Ability to read documents such as requisitions.
  • Ability to document on established forms and in the EMR.
  • Honest, punctual, and performs the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC and the tenets of the profession.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of patient experience - preferred
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Recording electrocardiograms (EKGs) of customers ranging in age from newborn to geriatric.
  • Ensuring that EKGs are transmitted from cart to MUSE EKG Computer System, utilizing patient identifiers.
  • Placing telemetry transmitter packs.
  • Communication with monitor technician for verification of signal.
  • Delivering cardiac rhythm strips from the Cardiac monitoring station to the various nursing units and posting these strips in specified unit locations during periods of medical record downtime.
  • Performing miscellaneous duties related to cardiac monitoring including but not limited to troubleshooting telemetry transmitter packs (i.e., replacing worn electrodes, changing batteries, changing wires, etc.).
  • Assisting in the search and retrieval of misplaced telemetry transmitter packs and cardiac pacemakers.
  • Understands the hospital strategic plan within scope of EKG technician expectation and role.
  • Responsible to interpret and follow Physicians’ orders.
  • Ability to triage workload and complete accordingly.
  • Representative of Cardio-Respiratory Services in support of the ideals and principles of the department and organizational culture.
  • Exemplifies Albany Med CARES guiding principles.
  • Assists, as needed, the onboarding of new staff, conducting department orientation.
  • Understands and promotes Patient and Employee Safety as our number one priority.
