About The Position

UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital is seeking a Monitor Technician for the Cardiac Telemetry unit. This onsite role ensures patients are maintained on continuous telemetry and provides technical and clerical support to assist in delivering quality patient care. The work includes routine management of telemetry room functions and documentation, interpretation of rhythm strips, and proper management and maintenance of telemetry equipment. The technician helps ensure continuous telemetry is maintained as required by physician order or patient need and promptly notifies staff of dysrhythmias. The position is based onsite, and the employee must be located in the greater Chicagoland area. It is part-time at 0.6 FTE, with 12-hour night shifts.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Ability to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
• Successful completion of training that includes basic rhythm strip interpretation.

Nice To Haves

• Previous monitor technician experience or paramedic training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain responsibility for the monitor count.
• Alert the RN to any change in a patient's rhythm.
• Maintain constant observation of all monitors for rhythm changes and respond as appropriate.
• Review alarm settings every shift for each patient.
• Document on the monitor screen the location of patients who are offline.
• Maintain a shift census with each patient's name, room number, rhythm, rate, and assigned RN.
• Support routine management of telemetry room functions and documentation.
• Interpret rhythm strips and help ensure proper management and maintenance of telemetry equipment.
• Maintain continuous telemetry as required by physician order or patient need and promptly notify staff of dysrhythmias.
