The Molecular Technician primary responsibility is to assist with molecular laboratory processes associated with routine specimen processing and test performance under the direct supervision and control of licensed individuals. This may include assisting with the processing and testing of clinical specimens, maintaining lab organization and cleanliness, and adhering to quality control and quality assurance procedures. The Molecular Technician is knowledgeable of the use of equipment/liquid handling automation, databases, and software applications used in the molecular lab workflow. Maintains flexibility with regard to work schedule including section assignment, daily work shift and days of the week as determined by business need. Contract Length: 6 months Schedule: Sun-Thurs, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM Location: This is an onsite position based in our South San Francisco location.

Requirements

  • Associate’s, or higher, degree in one of the chemical, physical, biological sciences, or medical technology from an accredited institution required
  • 1+ year of relevant experience in a laboratory setting
  • Enthusiastic and demonstrated self-starter
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to navigate efficiently through, or have familiarity with, various laboratory information systems (LIS) and have proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with molecular genetic testing on clinical specimens
  • Multi-task efficiently, maintain flexibility, and work as a team player to support sample processing according to multiple workflows and maintain established turnaround times
  • Preparation and storage of reagents
  • Able to follow instructions and strictly follow SOPs
  • Immediately notify the supervisor of any specimen processing problems that may adversely affect the reporting of test results
  • Assist with maintaining inventory materials and laboratory supplies
  • Assist in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control activities in accordance with the laboratory’s policies and procedures
  • Complete other related administrative duties, including copying, filing, data entry, faxing, and quality control of spreadsheets
  • Provide the highest quality of internal/external customer service
  • Understand compliance regulations related to test ordering
  • Perform all duties according to guidelines outlined within the quality systems
  • Compliant with company policies, procedures, safety requirements and regulations
  • May assist in research and validation activities
  • Perform any other site/lab specific duties as assigned
