This role involves setting up, starting up, and troubleshooting injection molding machines, robots, and secondary equipment. It also includes performing production samples and Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) investigations. The position will mentor and coach all Mold Tech Level One, Level Two, and Level Three.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to successfully complete all Mold Tech Level One, Two and Three duties, and must possess a minimum of five (5) years molding experience in a technical role with a proven ability to perform complicated set-ups, process adjustments and continuous improvement of cycles and product quality requirements.
  • Successful completion of SMC Mold Technician Classes One, Two, and Three.
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiment process.
  • Ability to perform first article mold samples, working knowledge of injection molding resins including engineering grades. Ability to identify and communicate mold concerns and suggestions for improvement.
  • Proficient understanding of mold venting, cooling circuitry, draft, inserts, and mold steel composition.
  • Proficiency in graph analysis and interpretation of data acquisition equipment.
  • Experience in programming robotics and secondary equipment.
  • Computer skills are necessary, specifically in Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
  • Strong technical and mechanical background.
  • Ability to work with precision tools and measuring instruments required.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in lean manufacturing and ISO environment preferred.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • SMC Overhead Hoist certified.
  • SMC Pallet Jack certified.
  • SMC Lock Out, Tag Out certified.
  • Knowledge of IQMS.
  • Knowledge of the material handling system.
  • Knowledge of molds and ability to clean them for production run.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, start, and troubleshoot a variety of injection molding processes, molds, robots, dryers, mold heat controllers and auxiliary equipment, interface with QA, Engineering and Tool Room regarding all levels of part quality.
  • Verify molds are inspected and properly treated after product run (cleaning, moisture prevention); communicate mold problems and opportunities to tool room via Maintenance Repair Order (MRO).
  • Investigate production problems, identify root cause and recommend or implement solution.
  • Recommend and implement corrective action to improve scrap and increase productivity by reducing machine cycles and suggesting mold upgrades. Investigate causes contributing to variation within the molding process.
  • Use problem solving/troubleshooting tools to evaluate machine, tooling, personnel, and process and set up problems or errors on injection molding machines.
  • Maintain tour ready production floor.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful attitude.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Perform all requirements of Mold Tech One, Two and Three job descriptions.
  • Properly and thoroughly fill out cycle sheets at beginning and end of run, and during spot audits as required.
  • Review product information at molding machine daily; monitor process parameters and part quality to minimize variation in the molding process.
  • Follow schedule and maintain machines running at, or better than, Bill of Materials (BOM) rate.
  • Startup and troubleshooting of secondary equipment, to include, but not limited to end mills, hot stamping, pad printing, etc.
  • Participate in production samples for New Product Design (NPD) or improvement purposes.
  • Actively participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activity as required.
  • Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) participation when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
