About The Position

The Mold Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting production molds to ensure optimal performance, product quality, and minimal downtime. This role supports manufacturing operations by keeping tooling in proper working conditions and addressing issues quickly and effectively.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
  • Proficiency with hand tools, grinders, and shop equipment
  • Attention to Detail – Ensure accuracy in work product, documentation, and processes to maintain high standards
  • Adaptable – Flexible to adapt to new skills, tasks, technologies, processes, and project requirements
  • Interpersonal Skills – Build strong relationships with others to promote a supportive and engaged workplace
  • Communication – Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers across departments to support customer needs
  • Problem-Solver – Strong problem-solving skills to identify issues and develop effective solutions
  • High school diploma or GED (technical training preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mold maintenance or tool and die required
  • Experience with injection molding, compression molding, or other tooling systems
  • Experience with machining (CNC, milling, grinding, EDM)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of hot runner systems (Husky, Mold-Masters, etc.) preferred
  • Understanding of mold design and engineering specifications a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on molds and tooling
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble molds and related components
  • Diagnose problems such as wear, damage, misalignment, and mold defects
  • Repair or replace components including cores, cavities, inserts, slides, ejector systems, and cooling lines
  • Polish and fit mold surfaces to required tolerances and finishes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mold-related production issues (e.g., flashing, sticking, short shots)
  • Maintain proper function of hot runner systems, venting, and cooling circuits
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and spare parts usage
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to improve tooling performance
  • Assist with mold installs, setups, and changeovers as needed
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment
