About The Position

The Mohs Histotech prepares histologic slides from human tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist. The role involves preparing tissue from surgical procedures through grossing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting. The schedule is Monday through Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional hours may be available as a Mohs Medical Assistant for interested employees.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent under the 1988 CLIA guidelines for high-complexity testing; alternatively, completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histology program or at least one year of full-time Histology Technician Trainee experience with competency in fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, special stains, immunohistochemistry, grossing, and laboratory operations.
• Certified or eligible for Board of Certification (BOC) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Responsibilities

• Prepare human tissue sections for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis by grossing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting tissue from surgical procedures.
• Label requisitions, specimen containers, cassettes, and/or slides as needed, and affix coverslips to slides.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and track routine maintenance and quality controls performed.
• File, retrieve, and distribute blocks, slides, and pathology reports.
• Operate, clean, and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and the workstation.
• Dispose of hazardous chemical wastes according to regulatory guidelines.
• Comply with applicable state, federal, and professional regulations, as well as company and departmental rules, policies, and procedural manuals.
• Adhere to CAP, CLIA, state, HIPAA, safety, and OSHA regulations.
