About The Position

Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction is seeking passionate teachers dedicated to classical education and training the hearts and minds of the next generation. This part-time position involves teaching 10th & 11th grade foreign language classes, or other courses based on qualifications, for up to 5 classes. The ideal candidate will be organized, devoted to student growth in wisdom and virtue, and possess a can-do attitude. The role requires a commitment to classical pedagogy, collaboration with colleagues and parents, and active participation in school operations and professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in foreign language, Classical Studies, English, or a related field, or equivalent experience (Teaching license NOT required).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide.
  • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods.
  • Assign, collect, grade and return graded work in a timely manner.
  • Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle.
  • Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning.
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions.
  • Collaborate with Student Services team to meet the requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others.
  • Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with parents.
  • Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule.
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACACS and Hillsdale College's K12 Office.
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records.
  • Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners.
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation as well as official college transcripts within 90 days of hire date.
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
