About The Position

Wiz Kids Sports Camps are seasonal youth sports camps that offer athletic and academic enrichment to participants. The Modern Dance Instructor is responsible for teaching fundamental skills as well as more advanced strategy, guiding campers through the day-to-day activities of the overall camp experience. This role involves teaching sound technique classes based on current best practices for the physical and developmental health of the student, developing critical artistic sensibilities, and instilling skills and lessons that go beyond the studio. The instructor will choreograph the end of session camper showcase, teach basic and advanced dance steps, and instill an appreciation for dance. They will provide individual help as needed, using junior associates, and ensure the welfare of campers and positive resolution of camper-related issues by communicating clearly and consistently with camp leadership staff. A willingness to comply with Suspected Child Abuse Reporting is also required, along with additional duties as contracted.

Requirements

  • Prior Modern Dance related instruction experience at the elementary or high school level.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with campers, staff, and leadership.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise groups of children in an active camp environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe, positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for all campers.
  • Experience developing or facilitating age-appropriate drills, practices, games, or recreational activities.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, or other applicable safety certification.
  • Experience working with children of varying ages, abilities, and skill levels.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Performing or Fine Arts is highly preferred.
  • Previous summer camp, youth development, education, recreation, or childcare experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the welfare of campers and positive resolution of camper related issues by communication clearly and consistently with camp leadership staff.
  • Willingness to comply with Suspected Child Abuse Reporting (Subsection (a)(6) of 325 ILCS 5-4).
  • Additional duties as contracted.
