About The Position

This position is for a Moderate Special Needs Teacher at Dolbeare Elementary School, reporting to the Director of SPED. The role involves managing the needs of students with IEPs, many of whom have overall weaknesses in ELA and math. Responsibilities include making modifications and accommodations within the regular education classroom, designing and implementing lessons in accordance with student IEPs, and managing paraprofessional support for student caseloads. The teacher will need to break down curriculum into manageable steps, integrate self-advocacy and self-determination skills, and motivate students by counseling to develop their abilities and talents. This description is for ADA compliance and may include additional duties.

Requirements

  • Qualified or Certified by Massachusetts Department of Education
  • MSN PreK – 8
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Adapting assignments to different learning styles
  • Differentiating instruction
  • Good interpersonal skills to effectively work with a team
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Writing IEPs, particularly solid goals and objectives
  • Administering and reporting on assessments including the WJR-III and WIAT
  • Experience using data for progress monitoring
  • Compliance aspects around Special Education regulations
  • Training in systematic phonetic based reading programs such as Lips, Wilson
  • Training in programs such as Project Read, Read Naturally, Great Leaps, Framing your Thoughts, Empower
  • Experience in Building high level of need service models within the public school setting
