Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (May be allowed to sign a GED agreement to obtain within 6-months)
  • 1 year phlebotomy experience
  • Organized

  • Maintains BLS, ACLS and PALS provider status as applicable to position

Responsibilities

  • Following the laboratory’s procedures for specimen collection, handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results, including Chemistry without assay ranges or critical values, Coagulation studies without assay ranges or critical values, Hematology without manual differential or critical values, Urinalysis without microscopic exams, Sed-rates, D-Dimers, BNP, triage urine tox screens, and all waived tests.
  • Performs proficiency testing samples in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adhering to the laboratory’s Quality Control policies and documenting all Quality Control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance, under the supervision of an MLT or MT.
  • Following the laboratory’s policies, including taking and documenting corrective actions, whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Being able to identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or test result reporting and correcting the problem or notifying the appropriate supervisor.
  • Documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
  • If required by route of qualification, perform moderate complexity testing only under the on-site direct supervision of an MLT or MT.
  • May include oversite of the phlebotomy team.
