About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Skillbridge Principal / Senior Modeling Simulation & Performance Analysis Systems Engineer to join their team in Baltimore, MD. This is a 100% on-site position. The SkillBridge Program is an opportunity for service members preparing for civilian careers to gain valuable civilian work experience during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. Participants will work on-site, gaining experience in an entry to mid-level career path, with a work schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week. The program aims to provide separating service members with job skills training in a professional setting, offering hands-on experience that could lead to full-time employment. Service members must meet specific eligibility criteria, including having served at least 180 days on active duty, being within 12 months of separation or retirement with an honorable discharge, and having completed required military transition programs and ethics briefs. Commander approval is also required. The role involves performance engineering, software integration, and test activities leveraging modeling, simulation, experimentation, and analysis (MS&A) to assess, validate, and optimize system and subsystem performance, particularly for radar systems. This includes working with IQ data, analyzing system behavior, supporting software integration and algorithm development, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The position requires a Secret clearance and the ability to obtain special program access (SAP).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience or a PhD with 1 year of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree (for Principal level).
  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 6 years of experience or a PhD with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree (for Senior Principal level).
  • U.S Citizenship is required.
  • A current/active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Special Access Program (SAP) access.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, experimentation, and analysis.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python, C/C++, as well as scripting in Linux/Windows environments.
  • Experienced in statistics, design of experiments, and high-performance computing.
  • Experience with DoD testing and acquisition principles, with hands-on experience in developmental testing, planning, and execution of weapon tests.
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty.
  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement.
  • Will receive an honorable discharge.
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS.
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months.
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership with small teams and/or mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Accelerate delivery of capabilities to customers through performance engineering, software integration, and test activities that leverage credible modeling, simulation, experimentation, and analysis.
  • Apply MS&A techniques with a focus on systems and software performance analysis across all phases of radar systems engineering to assess, validate, and optimize system and subsystem performance.
  • Interact with IQ data from simulated and real-world collections, following it through the radar processing chain, and working closely with M&S and radar mode teams to identify and resolve deficiencies in both modeled data and operational modes.
  • Perform performance-focused modeling and simulation on high-performance computing grids to evaluate and optimize system and subsystem behavior, conduct trade studies, and generate systems engineering documents, reports, and operational documentation.
  • Utilize MSE&A frameworks to support software integration, algorithm development, and radar mode validation, ensuring consistency between modeled environments and real-world data.
  • Assess system capabilities by linking system and subsystem requirements to performance metrics and mission threads, defining and verifying interfaces and their connections that enable mission execution, and supporting integration and test activities during development.
  • Support systems engineering radar algorithm validation by tracing IQ data through the radar processing chain, comparing modeled and collected data, and identifying performance shortfalls and corrective actions.
  • Plan, generate, and execute verification and validation artifacts supporting system design verification testing and system acceptance testing, including test plans, procedures, and data review packages.
  • Develop and improve performance models, simulation frameworks, and analysis tools, including physics-based radar models, threat and environment models, and command-and-control interactions, to accurately represent system behavior under varied conditions.
  • Perform large-scale data analytics, probabilities, and statistics, including the application of design of experiments techniques for the evaluation of system and mission performance, algorithm robustness, and sensitivity to key parameters.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (M&S, software, radar modes, systems integration & test) to diagnose performance issues, recommend design changes or tuning, and ensure integrated solutions meet performance requirements.
  • Generate and present technical material to support internal and external customer briefings, technical reviews, and design/test readiness events.
  • Innovate to solve problems and identify improvements across MSE&A products, performance analysis workflows, and integration/test approaches.
  • Develop, integrate, and use advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools to explore, validate, and communicate performance results.
