Modeling/Sim Engr

SAIC•Crane, IN

About The Position

SAIC is seeking a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) Modeling and Simulation Aerospace Engineer to support hypersonic weapon systems development. The engineer will design, model, and validate GN&C systems for hypersonic weapons, focusing on simulation development, algorithm design, and performance analysis in a mission-critical environment. The work contributes to optimizing weapon system performance in high-speed and harsh environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in GNC engineering, missile guidance, flight controls, or related system modeling.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, FORTRAN, or equivalent simulation frameworks or programming languages.
  • Demonstrated ability, through coursework or professional experience, to perform one or more GNC or M&S assignments.
  • Ability to develop and analyze algorithms such as guidance, navigation, autopilot, inertial tracking, and servo control algorithms.
  • Ability to develop and/or verify and validate complex vehicle models and simulations, such as missile 6-degree-of-freedom simulations.
  • Strong mathematics skills in linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) or software-in-the-loop (SIL) environments.
  • Experience supporting missile systems, unmanned systems, or weapons/flight dynamics programs.
  • Experience supporting DoD/DoW weapons systems.
  • Experience with aerospace flight-test data analysis or guidance verification.
  • Current active Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and refine guidance, control, and navigation algorithms.
  • Support hypersonic weapon system modeling and simulation, including six-degree-of-freedom (6 DOF) simulations.
  • Perform trajectory analysis, mission performance evaluations, and control system stability assessments.
  • Analyze telemetry, flight-test data, and HWIL/SIL outputs to validate system performance.
  • Conduct Monte Carlo analysis, uncertainty modeling, and system performance sensitivity studies.
  • Evaluate system performance in complex scenarios and environments, and verify system- and subsystem-level requirements.
  • Support requirements decomposition, interface definition, and subsystem integration with systems engineering teams.
  • Document models, test results, algorithm behavior, and performance in technical reports and presentations.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design sessions, and engineering working groups with government and contractor personnel.
