Modeling/Sim Engr

SAIC•Crane, IN

About The Position

SAIC is seeking a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) Modeling and Simulation Aerospace Engineer to support hypersonic weapon systems development. The role contributes to the design, modeling, and validation of GN&C systems, with a focus on simulation development, algorithm design, and performance analysis in a mission-critical environment. The work supports optimization of weapon system performance in high-speed and harsh environments. The engineer develops and analyzes GN&C algorithms and vehicle simulations, evaluates system performance using flight and simulation data, and supports requirements definition and subsystem integration. The role also involves documenting technical results and participating in reviews and working groups with government and contractor personnel. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; an active Secret clearance is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in GNC engineering, missile guidance, flight controls, or related system modeling.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, FORTRAN, or equivalent simulation frameworks or programming languages.
  • Demonstrated ability, through coursework or professional experience, to perform one or more GNC or modeling-and-simulation assignments, such as developing or analyzing guidance, navigation, autopilot, inertial-tracking, or servo-control algorithms; developing or verifying and validating complex vehicle models and simulations such as missile 6-DOF simulations; or applying strong mathematics skills in linear algebra, matrix mathematics, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) or software-in-the-loop (SIL) environments.
  • Experience supporting missile systems, unmanned systems, or weapons or flight-dynamics programs.
  • Experience supporting DoD/DoW weapons systems.
  • Experience analyzing aerospace flight-test data or supporting guidance verification.
  • Current active Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and refine guidance, control, and navigation algorithms.
  • Support hypersonic weapon system modeling and simulation, including six-degree-of-freedom (6 DOF) simulations.
  • Perform trajectory analysis, mission performance evaluations, and control-system stability assessments.
  • Analyze telemetry, flight-test data, and hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) or software-in-the-loop (SIL) outputs to validate system performance.
  • Conduct Monte Carlo analysis, uncertainty modeling, and system-performance sensitivity studies.
  • Evaluate performance in complex scenarios and environments and verify system- and subsystem-level requirements.
  • Support requirements decomposition, interface definition, and subsystem integration with systems-engineering teams.
  • Document models, test results, algorithm behavior, and performance in technical reports and presentations.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design sessions, and engineering working groups with government and contractor personnel.
