About The Position

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) is hiring a Modeling and Simulation Engineer to support the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold AFB, Tennessee. The position is part of the Engineering Solutions branch, which supports United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts and develops technology in support of the National Defense Strategy. The role focuses on developing, validating, and applying computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and modeling and simulation tools in high-performance computing environments. The engineer will solve complex physical problems, extend predictive capabilities into hypersonic and high-temperature combustion regimes, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve aerodynamic test facilities and hardware system performance. The position requires effective communication, organization, discretion, time management, initiative, and willingness to learn new duties and skills. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position. Work is performed at Arnold AFB, Tennessee. U.S. citizenship is required, and the employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret clearance and access to the AEDC local area network. Wearing company-issued personal protective equipment as directed is a condition of employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Coursework or research projects utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for employment at AEDC.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with discretion and confidentiality, manage time effectively, stay organized and proactive, and continually learn new duties and skills.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of experience using computational development and analysis.
  • Foundational knowledge of compressible flow principles and thermodynamics, with ability to apply them to test facility subsystem analysis.
  • Ability to work on a team developing and applying complex CFD models.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with CFD meshing tools, solvers, or post-processors such as Pointwise, Tecplot, CREATE-AV Kestrel, Loci-CHEM, ANSYS Fluent, or Star-CCM+.
  • Computational development and application skills focused on modeling compressible, real-gas, or chemically reacting flows in subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic regimes.
  • Detailed knowledge of thermodynamics, combustion, and multidisciplinary modeling.
  • A combination of code development and application skills.
  • Ability to participate in and foster a work environment based on openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Support software development for computational modeling and simulation tools.
  • Develop and apply computational models and simulations, using high-performance computing, to solve complex physical problems in engineering analysis and design.
  • Ensure modeling and simulation tools meet performance-prediction needs for complex hardware systems and troubleshoot inaccurate results.
  • Analyze deficiencies in existing CFD codes and formulate, implement, and validate improvements.
  • Develop computational approaches in fluid-thermal chemistry, turbulence, numerical algorithms, and code processing.
  • Expand CFD capabilities into hypersonic regimes by implementing or applying algorithms and tools that account for combustion and high-speed chemical reactions.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering computations, techniques, procedures, and criteria, including adaptations and modifications.
  • Prepare, execute, interpret, and review aerodynamic computations using CFD codes for aerodynamic facility analysis.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on technological advances, facility improvements, advanced diagnostics, and complex problem solving.
  • Wear company-issued personal protective equipment in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
