Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer

Brunswick Corporation•Fond du Lac, WI
•$73,600 - $117,900

About The Position

As a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer, you will be part of a team of analysis engineers supporting the design and development of conventional marine internal combustion engines, drive systems, electrified propulsion, and vessels. You will conduct detailed simulations using CFD software to model fluid behavior and heat transfer. The role involves working with design, development, and test engineers; coordinating work packages between onsite and offshore teams; documenting and presenting analysis findings; developing new methods; and improving analysis processes, tools, and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience performing CFD analysis using Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+, Ansys Fluent, or similar commercial software.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Exposure to numerical methods and engineering analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) analysis, multiphase and phase change analysis, Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI), dynamic, moving and overset mesh, or Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH).
  • CAD experience with Creo and Ansys SpaceClaim.
  • Experience using a High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster with Linux OS.
  • Knowledge of test instrumentation such as strain gauges, accelerometers, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and flow meters.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed CFD simulations using Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+, Ansys Fluent, or similar commercial software to model fluid behavior and heat transfer.
  • Perform multiphase hydrodynamic analyses of propellers, drives, and boats, including gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, gas-solid, liquid-solid, and gas-liquid-solid interactions.
  • Work with design and development engineers to provide design inputs, conduct trade-off studies, assess impacts on performance, weight, and cost, and recommend solutions.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to specify testing and instrumentation, design test plans, select sensors, and support accurate data collection to validate analysis results.
  • Develop innovative solutions independently and collaborate with cross-functional design, development, and test teams to achieve project goals.
  • Coordinate work packages between onsite and offshore teams, manage timelines, support clear communication, and maintain quality and consistency of deliverables.
  • Document analysis findings, prepare reports, present results to stakeholders and engineering partners, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities for new method development and work with experts to test and deploy methods.
  • Seek opportunities to improve analysis processes, tools, and methodologies.
