About The Position

Integration Charter School (ICS) is dedicated to providing innovative pathways to college that fully integrate students with special needs. In building a family of associated schools that share this common mission, ICS strives to fill gaps in public education. The ICS network is composed of four schools in Staten Island, NY. Through our partnership with Monroe College, ICS teachers have the opportunity to obtain their Standard Teaching Certification while working with us to become a highly qualified teacher. Summary Under the direction of the principal and/or assistant principal, the model teacher provides curricular and instructional support for their respective teams. Model Teachers support organization-wide growth by promoting critical reflection on instructional practice to effectively meet the needs of diverse student groups. Model Teachers take on an expansive role, learning about and responding to the strengths and needs of ICS’ teaching and learning while building instructional coherence.

Requirements

  • A Masters degree.
  • A current, full-time licensed educator, with at least one class of record and 40% of time spent in the classroom.
  • Earn Distinguished and Proficient ratings for classroom teaching and professional responsibilities
  • Show openness to feedback and demonstrate a growth mindset and a willingness to continually improve.
  • Exhibit patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate students toward their full potential.
  • Collaborative attitude toward teaching and learning.
  • Embrace and celebrate diversity, creating an inclusive classroom environment that reflects the dynamic nature of our community.

  • Experience and knowledge of the Data Wise Improvement framework is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and host lab classroom visits, meeting with colleagues before and after visits to determine goals and action plans in partnership with school leaders.
  • Coordinate school-wide intervisitation initiatives in order to promote low-inference pedagogical reflection and develop a common language around instructional practices.
  • Facilitate non-evaluative debrief conversations to support their colleagues through collaborative planning and focused modeling.
  • Design research-based professional learning opportunities utilizing adult learning principles, student/family input and routine feedback.
  • Analyze impact of professional learning opportunities and design and archive library of resources, including videos from their own lab classroom.
  • Structure ongoing inquiry or action-research initiatives based on the school’s “problem of practice” and/or instructional focus.
  • Coach individual teachers as needed to support alignment to the school's instructional focus and effective teaching strategies.
  • Conduct strategic conversations with school leaders to advocate for customized adult and student learning opportunities and structures.
  • Develop goals and action plans with school leaders for teacher leader initiatives, based on school community needs and the instructional focus.
  • Engage in routine reflective conversations with school leaders and colleagues about data and the impact of the lab classroom model.

Benefits

  • Stipend of up to $12K for the school year.
  • Work five additional hours per month to be scheduled in collaboration with the school leader.
  • Work five additional summer days during our ICS Summer Institute (the week following Independence Weekend).
