Model Maker (2+ years)
About The Position
We are helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Model Maker to support the development of rapid prototypes and first-article builds that advance autonomous mobility. The role supports dynamic prototyping projects by partnering with internal stakeholders and prototyping teammates to enable rapid vehicle development and iteration. The Model Maker provides hands-on fabrication support across disciplines including metalworking, composites, additive manufacturing, and CNC operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on builder with a customer-service mindset, solid fabrication fundamentals, and a desire to learn and expand their technical capabilities.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a model maker or fabricator.
- Basic ability to use CAD tools such as Solidworks and to read and understand blueprints or engineering drawings.
- Ability to communicate and evaluate a design for fabrication.
- Excellent customer-service mindset.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Experience with advanced CAD tools such as CATIA and design concepts such as GD&T.
- MIG and TIG welding experience.
- CNC operation experience.
- CNC setup experience.
- Additive manufacturing technology experience.
- Experience with lab or shop management and safety.
Responsibilities
- Support rapid fabrication and iteration of prototype parts and assemblies for vehicle development projects.
- Collaborate with prototyping teammates and internal clients to understand project requirements, timelines, and risks.
- Prioritize and complete work in a fast-paced prototyping environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Clearly and professionally communicate project updates, fabrication constraints, and timing expectations.
- Operate and support fabrication equipment and processes, including CNC machinery, metalworking tools, and additive manufacturing systems.
- Perform fabrication and finishing tasks such as deburring, hand-tool work, assembly, and fitment adjustments.
- Support prototyping activities across sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, composites, and 3D printing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused shop environment.
