About The Position

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to lead the development and implementation of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) on the SSNX Program, a future class of fast-attack nuclear-powered submarines intended to replace the Virginia Class and Seawolf Class. The role leads systems engineering across the SSNX lifecycle, including requirements development and management, verification and validation, and systems architecting. It also develops and refines MBSE processes, frameworks, and best practices and supports adoption of MBSE methodologies across programs. The engineer works with discipline engineering teams, program management, external stakeholders, and cross-functional engineering and design colleagues to align work with customer needs. The role includes mentoring early-career systems engineers and performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, supportability, and effectiveness analyses. It translates customer or product requirements into total-system solutions while accounting for technical, schedule, and cost constraints, and conducts functional and timeline analyses, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to develop hardware and software specifications.
