About The Position

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to lead the development and implementation of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for the SSNX program, a future class of fast-attack nuclear-powered submarines intended to replace the Virginia and Seawolf classes. The position leads systems engineering throughout the system lifecycle, including requirements development and management, verification and validation, and systems architecting. It also leads the development and refinement of MBSE processes, frameworks, and best practices, and supports adoption of MBSE methodologies across programs. The engineer works with discipline engineering teams, program management, external stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to align work with customer needs and improve efficiency and decision-making. The role includes mentoring early-career systems engineers and performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, supportability, and effectiveness analyses. Work spans all levels and stages of a total system, from concept and design through fabrication, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal. The engineer converts customer or product requirements into systems solutions while considering technical, schedule, and cost constraints, and performs functional and timeline analyses, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies.
