Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the development and implementation of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) on the SSNX Program, a future class of fast-attack nuclear-powered submarine intended to replace the Virginia Class and Seawolf Class boats. The role performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analyses across total systems and their lifecycle. It converts customer or product requirements into systems solutions while accounting for technical, schedule, and cost constraints, and uses functional and timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to translate requirements into hardware and software specifications. The engineer will lead systems engineering on SSNX across the systems lifecycle, including requirements development and management, verification and validation, and systems architecting. The position also leads the development and refinement of MBSE processes, frameworks, and best practices, leads one to three MBSE projects, collaborates with engineering teams, program management, and external stakeholders, promotes MBSE adoption across programs, and mentors early-career systems engineers. The position is full-time, first shift, based at Newport News Shipbuilding, and is not eligible for telework. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time. U.S. citizenship is required. Relocation assistance is available. The stated salary range is $99,000 to $122,000; final compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
