This role involves assisting patients with daily living activities, including turning, positioning, and transferring patients. The Mobility Technician also assists patients with ambulation using appropriate assistive devices and provides the necessary support. Adherence to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient care is essential. The position also requires observation and maintenance of isolation precautions, including practicing hand hygiene and utilizing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Accurate and timely documentation of patient contact, ADLs, and other pertinent information is required, along with completing verbal and written reports by the end of the shift. The technician must demonstrate flexibility in responding to patient needs, prioritize care based on patient needs, and work collaboratively as a team member to meet unit and department goals. Safety and comfort measures for patients are paramount, including checking with the patient's care team before and after mobilizing, ensuring patient safety upon leaving the room (bed rails, locked bed, call bell within reach), and adhering to precautions for patients receiving chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Customer service and patient satisfaction are key, involving observation and response to emotional needs of patients and families, reporting observations to the care team, and communicating with staff via vocera when unable to assist patients directly. The role also includes performing non-patient, unit/department specific duties such as maintaining a neat and clean environment, cleaning assistive devices, and performing other requested duties. Maintaining a safe environment in accordance with regulatory agencies (OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health) is critical, including checking patient identifiers, ensuring call bells and phones are within reach, removing non-functioning equipment, activating bed alarms, remaining with fall risk patients during toileting, and participating in hand hygiene initiatives. The technician will also participate in the orientation of new employees and provide coverage for patient care as needed. Recognizing and reporting physiological symptoms of dizziness, SOB, and fatigue to nursing staff in a timely manner is also a responsibility, along with completing documentation and communicating changes in patient condition to the care team.
