About The Position

IMRIS continues to advance the field by integrating next-generation intraoperative imaging technologies and shaping the future of neurosurgery and image-guided interventions across leading hospitals globally. We are currently searching for a Mobility Principal Engineer to join our team. This role will be performed on-site and is based at our location in North Billerica, MA. Please note: There is no relocation offered for this role. The ideal candidate will currently reside in the Greater Boston area.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience developing complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety-critical motion-control systems.
  • Strong expertise in: Mobility system architecture, Motorized motion systems, Electro-mechanical integration, Functional safety, System verification and validation.
  • Experience with medical devices, robotics, automation, or heavy mobile equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • MRI, CT, Surgical Robotics, Radiation Therapy, or Medical Imaging experience.
  • Experience with dockable patient tables, moving gantries, autonomous or semi-autonomous mobility systems.
  • Knowledge of: IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-6, ISO 14971, Functional safety principles.
  • Experience supporting FDA 510(k) submissions and design controls.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical subsystems for an MRI system.
  • Develop mobility mechanisms, patient handling systems, equipment supports and structural assemblies.
  • Design and optimize cable routing solutions for signal, power, cooling, and RF-related components.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, assemblies, and design documentation.
  • Utilize rapid prototyping and 3D printing technologies to support concept evaluation, functional testing and design verification.
  • Collaborate closely with Electrical, RF, Magnet, Gradient, Software Engineering teams to ensure successful system integration.
  • Resolve mechanical and electro-mechanical integration challenges during prototype builds.
  • Support design reviews and cross-functional technical discussions.
  • Develop and execute mechanical verification test plans and protocols.
  • Perform structural, vibration, shock, thermal, durability, transportation and lifecycle testing.
  • Support compliance with applicable medical device standards, including: IEC 60601-1 Medical Electrical Equipment Safety, ISO 14971 Risk Management.
  • Generate and maintain Design History File (DHF) documentation.
