About The Position

Gold Coast Transit District is seeking motivated and enthusiastic interns interested in gaining hands-on experience in public transportation, local government, and community service. Interns will have the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that support GCTD’s mission of connecting the community to opportunity through safe, reliable, and innovative transportation services. Typical internship hours will be part time 20hrs per week, but we will work with selected applicants on a schedule if flexibility is needed or other jobs or school. This is a part-time temporary position (Maximum hours 980 per year). This internship is designed to benefit both the Intern and Gold Coast Transit District (GCTD). In this position, the intern will learn how to apply skills that were acquired in the academic environment and apply them in a professional setting. The Intern will gain an understanding of a public transit district and be better prepared to work in various areas of the public sector. Work schedule will be up to 20 hours per week, with flexible scheduling available to meet the incumbents needs. Internship Focus Areas As part of the application process, applicants should indicate which internship focus areas(s) they are most interested in being considered for (or check all that apply): Mobility and Rider Experience: Areas may include customer outreach, transit planning, community engagement, and rider experience initiatives.

Requirements

  • A college junior, senior OR a graduate of an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Relevant coursework, demonstrating an interest and aptitude to work in a related field of study
  • A combination of education and work experience that meets the needs of the position.
  • At least age 18
  • Working knowledge of computer programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Good communication written and oral skills, including ability to receive feedback and follow instructions.
  • Ability to maintain tact and professional demeanor in the workplace and with the public.
  • Ability to work independently with multiple assignments.
  • Ability to take initiative and produce completed staff work.
  • Ability to maintain good attendance.
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs
  • Proof of work eligibility and attest that they are a citizen, permanent resident alien, or otherwise authorized to be employed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff with data collection, filing, general office support, and special projects
  • Use a computer or other software to complete tasks
  • Observe and gain exposure to public transportation systems
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and field activities
  • Provide administrative and organizational support as assigned
  • Collaborate with staff across multiple departments on team-based projects
  • Perform other related duties and special assignments as needed
