About The Position

The Mobility Aide safely ambulates patients in the acute care setting to address risks associated with immobility. The aide guides eligible patients through the mobility program, uses suitable ambulation devices, educates patients about associated risks, and motivates and encourages them to mobilize. The role may also include assisting with lift equipment maintenance and inventory, while supporting Tampa General Hospital’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health professionals to promote the highest possible patient functioning.
• Intermediate computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office.
• Verbal, writing, reading, and patient relation skills.
• Effective time-management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Complement and support therapists and nurses in patient mobility according to established standards of care.
• Perform designated routine patient mobilization tasks.
• Safely transfer and ambulate patients.
• Prioritize the patient list based on diagnosis, mobility level, and patient schedule.
• Provide patient mobilization data to the appropriate therapist or nurse.
• Recognize, respond to, and report changes in a patient’s condition.
• Guide eligible patients through the mobility program using suitable ambulation devices.
• Educate, motivate, and encourage patients to mobilize.
• May assist with lift equipment maintenance and inventory.
