About The Position

The Mobile Truck Service Technical Trainer – Quality & Compliance is responsible for delivering advanced technician training programs focused on mobile maintenance operations, repair quality, safety compliance and field execution standards. This role primarily operates in the field supporting mobile maintenance technicians through on-site instruction, hands-on coaching, ride-a-longs, and quality inspections. This position plays a critical role in ensuring mobile repairs are completed safely, efficiently and in compliance with TA operational standards, Technology & Maintenance Council recommended practices, and applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations. The trainer will partner with operational leadership to improve technician competencies, reduce offsite risk exposure, enhance repair quality, strengthen customer confidence and support TA’s mobile growth strategy.

Requirements

  • Technical Education or equivalent industry experience preferred.
  • 5–7 years of experience in medium- and heavy-duty truck technology, diagnostics and repair.
  • Extensive experience in mobile truck repair, roadside service or fleet field maintenance operations preferred.
  • ASE Master Technician certification required.
  • Additional certifications in BEV vehicles, CNG Fuel System Inspector, advanced electrical/electronic systems, or OEM Engines preferred.
  • Experience with TravelCenters of America Truck Service systems preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT inspection standards and TMC recommended maintenance practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication, coaching and analytical skills.
  • Ability to conduct quality inspections and provide constructive technician feedback in both classroom and field environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital training platforms.
  • Ability to develop instructionally sound technical training content and field execution standards.
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility in schedule to support live, virtual and field-based training events.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate delivery of technical training programs to field operations teams to promote skill growth of mobile truck service technicians.
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of systematic training programs focused on heavy-duty truck and trailer diagnostics, repair procedures, mobile maintenance service execution and best practices.
  • Conduct field ride-a-longs with mobile technicians to evaluate repair quality, safety behaviors, customer interaction and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Perform post-repair quality inspections to ensure repairs meet TA operational standards, OEM specifications, TMC recommended practices and FMCSA compliance requirements.
  • Coach technicians on proper diagnostic procedures, documentation standards, repair validation and root cause analysis.
  • Assist in identifying training gaps related to the increasing complexity of mobile maintenance repairs, including electrical systems, emissions systems, telematics and advanced vehicle technologies including alternative fueled vehicles.
  • Ensure consistent execution of mobile safety protocols including hazard assessments, PPE compliance, vehicle positioning, lockout/tagout practices and offsite management procedures.
  • Support the development and implementation of mobile maintenance standard operating procedures and field quality audit processes.
  • Maintain reporting and analytics related to technician performance, quality inspection findings, training effectiveness, repeat repairs and compliance trends before and after training events.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to Truck Service operations regarding tools, diagnostic equipment, repair procedures, warranty processes and mobile maintenance technologies.
  • Maintain an active industry network and remain current on emerging Class 8 truck and trailer technologies, FMCSA regulations, TMC standards and OEM repair requirements.
  • Promote bp’s “Believe in Zero” safety philosophy and reinforce a strong culture of safety accountability across all mobile operations.
  • Periodically deliver instructor-led training courses at TA Training Center locations and virtual learning events.
  • Partner with field leadership to improve technician onboarding, career progression and long-term workforce development strategies.
