About The Position

Cox Fleet is seeking a Mobile Trailer Technician II to join their team. This is a dedicated on-site position focused on performing certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, and light repairs on trailers. The role involves working at customer sites and may include tasks such as servicing aluminum and chem-lite components, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and panel/body/framework replacement. Technicians at this level can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assist senior technicians while continuing to develop their mechanical skills. A successful candidate will adhere to company policies and achieve high performance metrics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field, or any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline with 3 years of experience, or 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment preferred.
  • Certified to use refrigerants R134, R404, R410 and others as needed.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
  • A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. If the DOT medical card has four (4) months or less of validity remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Candidate must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license, be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification (required or obtained within 18 months).
  • ASE 608/609 certification (required or obtained within 18 months).

Responsibilities

  • Perform certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, and light repairs on trailers.
  • Service aluminum and chem-lite components, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
  • Diagnose and repair/replace compressors, coils, and electrical components.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck.
  • Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Apply acquired technical knowledge to perform job duties.
  • Effectively communicate with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Act with integrity, honesty, and by keeping commitments.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) and DOT Inspections, followed by repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
  • Respond to call center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company-issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors.
  • Communicate with management and support teams for repair estimate approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO findings.
  • Comply with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Participate in and complete all company-required safety training.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems.
  • Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Remain up-to-date on safety protocols and procedures.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
  • Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
