About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Systems Mechanical Design & Analysis Department is seeking a Mobile Radar Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Huntsville, Alabama. This role involves designing the next generation of sensors to protect America and its allies, specifically performing mechanical design of the Army Long-range Persistent Surveillance-Mobile (ALPS-M) product. The engineer will utilize SolidWorks CAD software and Windchill PLM software daily for design work, and collaborate with production teams to translate designs into hardware. Responsibilities may extend to integrating and installing hardware, and working with testing teams to validate its functionality. The position requires a strong technical contributor and leader proficient in mechanical engineering principles, structural design, electronics enclosure design, and thermal management. The engineer will be responsible for developing and proving out solutions to technical challenges, collaborating with design, systems, manufacturing, and analysis teams, and taking ownership of tasks to meet technical requirements and aggressive schedules. This role is described as a fast-paced program with unique technical challenges, offering a rewarding milestone in an engineering career.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • Less than 2 years' experience
  • Strong SolidWorks user
  • Experience with drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.100 & Y14.5
  • Basic understanding and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Strong attention-to-detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently and in team environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Active DoD security clearance (or eligibility to obtain and maintain clearance)

Nice To Haves

  • Windchill PLM experience
  • Design and/or Integration experience in the following areas: Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) and trailers, Mobile tactical equipment, Power generation, Payload erector systems
  • Basic understanding or experience with radars or other advanced sensing technologies
  • Experience with large steel structures including welded structures, bolted assemblies, and machined parts
  • Experience with aluminum sheet metal parts, electronics racks and enclosures, and environmental control units
  • Experience with metal part finishes and coatings
  • Experience supporting rapid development, prototyping, or fast-paced DOW engineering programs

Responsibilities

  • Structural and enclosure design via Solidworks CAD software
  • Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.100 & Y14.5
  • Producing technical data packages in accordance with MIL-STD-31000
