About The Position

Design the equipment that powers Scot Forge. At Scot Forge, our manufacturing operations depend on innovative, reliable, and safe equipment. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, improving, and supporting the custom machinery and systems used throughout our forging operations. From concept through installation, you'll help deliver solutions that improve safety, productivity, quality, and equipment reliability across multiple facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3+ years of machine design or industrial equipment design experience.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks, mechanical drafting, and engineering calculations.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, material selection, tolerancing, and mechanical systems.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with FEA, equipment reliability, and industrial machinery is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop custom machinery, equipment, tooling, and systems that support forging, heat treat, machining, and material handling operations.
• Lead mechanical engineering efforts for capital projects, including equipment upgrades, reliability improvements, and new manufacturing capabilities.
• Perform engineering analysis, component selection, and validation to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
• Partner with operations, maintenance, project teams, contractors, and suppliers to successfully manufacture, install, and support equipment.
• Support equipment troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts across Scot Forge facilities.
• Create mechanical designs, layouts, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
• Design and specify components such as gears, bearings, shafts, cylinders, frames, tooling, and other machine elements.
• Perform calculations, stress analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and other engineering evaluations to validate designs.
• Develop bills of material, specifications, and documentation needed for procurement and fabrication.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to improve equipment performance, safety, and maintainability.
• Support equipment commissioning, startup activities, and occasional troubleshooting outside normal operating hours.
