About The Position

Kashi Clinical Laboratories (KCL) provides diagnostic testing services to hospitals and clinics worldwide. We are seeking an experienced Per Diem Mobile Phlebotomist to support our team in the Portland metro area. This position provides coverage on an as-needed basis, including for last-minute call-offs and pre-scheduled time off. Weekly hours are not guaranteed, and flexibility is essential. This is a mobile role requiring travel to multiple client sites. Reliable transportation and a clean driving record are required. The Phlebotomist is responsible for the accurate collection, labeling, handling, and transport of blood and other specimens for laboratory testing while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy Certificate (proof of certification required upon hire)
  • Computer and technology proficient
  • Must maintain a current driver’s license and clean driving record

Responsibilities

  • Exhibits and promotes the professional image of Kashi Clinical.
  • Follow CLIA guidelines to correctly identify the patient before any specimen is obtained: Minimum of two (2) unique identifiers; full name (no nicknames), date of birth, medical requisition number, social security number are examples.
  • Verify all test requisitions are properly filled out
  • Obtain the proper sample (i.e., whole blood, serum, plasma) by performing venipuncture and/or fingerstick
  • Label all samples with the two (2) unique identifiers
  • Maintain proper labeling of all tubes, primary and pour-off tubes (daughter tubes)
  • Maintain proper documentation and identification of samples for transport to the laboratory
  • Ability to perform blood culture collection without contamination of site or sample
  • Know the proper techniques for collection of timed, fasting, or random collections
  • Be able to explain the proper collection for urine, stool, sputum, or culture swabs
  • Observe all safety protocols for the Client’s facility when you are collecting samples: This will be proper use of protective equipment (PPE), observation of isolation protocols, and hand washing
  • Follow all Universal Precautions and OSHA Standards when handling biological specimens
  • Strictly adhere to HIPAA Regulations
  • Maintain daily tallies of collections performed
  • Inform Phlebotomy Supervisor when a significant shift in collection volumes is noticed
  • Be aware and request supplies as needed to fulfill daily duties. This will include office supplies as well as phlebotomy supplies
