About The Position

The Mobile Phlebotomist Float is responsible for providing professional, accurate, and compassionate specimen collection services across multiple assigned locations throughout Alabama. This role requires reliable travel, strong phlebotomy skills, excellent patient service, and the ability to work independently while maintaining strict standards for specimen integrity, safety, confidentiality, and documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program or equivalent hands-on phlebotomy experience.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience required, preferably in mobile, outpatient, laboratory, hospital, long-term care, or patient service center settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform successful blood draws on a diverse patient population.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, proof of current auto insurance, and clean Motor Vehicle Report required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the assigned Alabama territory, including Huntsville, Madison, Decatur, Falkville, Priceville, Athens, Lauderdale, Florence, Muscle Shoals, Cullman, Hartselle, Scottsboro, Guntersville, Arab, Albertville, Boaz, Crossville, and Gadsden.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow assigned routes and schedules.
  • Strong attention to detail, professional communication skills, and commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Basic computer, mobile device, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to pass required background screening, drug screening, driving record review, and any applicable health or compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy certification preferred, where applicable.
  • Experience with geriatric, pediatric, difficult-draw, home health, or facility-based collections.
  • Experience handling laboratory requisitions, specimen processing, courier handoff, and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Knowledge of specimen stability, temperature requirements, order of draw, and proper tube selection.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned client sites, healthcare facilities, long-term care facilities, and other designated collection locations within the assigned Alabama service area.
  • Perform venipuncture, capillary collections, and other approved specimen collection procedures according to company policies and laboratory requirements.
  • Verify patient identity using required identifiers before collection and ensure requisitions, labels, and documentation are accurate and complete.
  • Prepare, label, process, package, store, and transport specimens properly to maintain sample integrity and meet laboratory testing standards.
  • Follow all applicable safety, infection control, bloodborne pathogen, HIPAA, OSHA, and universal precaution requirements.
  • Provide professional, courteous, and reassuring service to patients, clients, caregivers, and facility staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of collections, missed draws, cancellations, patient concerns, specimen issues, and route activity.
  • Communicate schedule changes, specimen concerns, supply needs, patient issues, or operational delays to management in a timely manner.
  • Maintain assigned supplies, equipment, and mobile collection materials in a clean, organized, and ready-to-use condition.
  • Support multiple locations as needed and adapt to changing daily routes, patient volumes, and business needs.
