About The Position

We are looking for an experienced Refuse Mechanic to join the service team. This role provides on-site diagnostics, repair, and maintenance for refuse collection vehicles—including front loaders, rear loaders, side loaders, and roll-off trucks—throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The ideal candidate has strong experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and heavy-duty truck repairs, and can work independently in the field.

Requirements

At least 3 years of experience as a diesel, heavy-duty, or refuse truck mechanic; field or mobile experience is preferred.
Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems used in refuse trucks.
Ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty truck systems with minimal supervision.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; a CDL is a plus.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work outdoors year-round.
Own tools are required; the company provides specialized tools and a service truck.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with McNeilus, Heil, Labrie, or similar refuse bodies.
Field or mobile mechanic experience.
CDL.

Responsibilities

Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on refuse collection vehicles at customer sites.
Service hydraulic systems, electrical systems, compaction equipment, and lifting arms.
Conduct preventive maintenance, including inspections, adjustments, and component replacements.
Operate a service truck equipped with tools and parts to complete field repairs.
Document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations.
Communicate with customers to explain issues, timelines, and solutions.
Follow safety standards when working on heavy equipment.
