About The Position

The Mobile Mechanic is responsible for performing visual inspections and diagnosis for troubleshoot resolution and performing general and preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment typical to quarry and production plant environments. This includes dump trucks, excavators, dozers, front-end loaders, forklifts, graders, tractor & trailers, and pick-up trucks, etc. The role requires a working knowledge of various equipment components including air supply systems, clutches and transmissions, drive shafts, drive axle assemblies and final drives, earth moving equipment, engine systems, engine management systems, exhaust, intake and emission control systems, electrical systems (starting and charging), heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, hydraulic systems, steering systems, suspension systems, and tires, wheels, frames and undercarriages. Additionally, the mechanic will be responsible for welding, brazing, and soldering, including setting up and operating electric welding equipment, gas welding and cutting equipment, reading and interpreting welding symbols, and laying out, tacking, and fabricating materials. Housekeeping and other miscellaneous duties assigned by management are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of CAT training.
  • Must be able to use Caterpillar S.I.S. to diagnose and order parts.
  • Capable of working closely with contractors.
  • Intermediate to advanced troubleshooting abilities.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to read and use operator's manuals.
  • Ability to fill out simple reports such as pre-shift inspection forms.
  • Ability to carry out simple oral & written instructions.
  • Ability to deal with simple problems from standardized situations.
  • Ability to safely complete other assigned training.
  • Ability to safely meet the supervisor’s standards of performance.
  • Ability to safely fill in as needed during vacation, absences, and increased production demands.
  • Ability to safely replace or assist other workers as needed.
  • Ability to safely perform other tasks as assigned by supervision or designated lead person.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of equipment components such as air supply systems, clutches and transmissions, drive shafts, drive axle assemblies and final drives, earth moving equipment, engine systems, engine management systems, exhaust, intake and emission control systems, electrical systems (starting and charging), heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, hydraulic systems, steering systems, suspension systems, and tires, wheels, frames and undercarriages.
  • Weld, braze, and solder, including setting up and operating electric welding equipment, gas welding and cutting equipment.
  • Read, interpret, and apply applicable welding symbols.
  • Lay out, tack, and fabricate materials.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties assigned by management.
