About The Position

T. Musselman Excavating is seeking a skilled and self-driven Mobile Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team. This is a dynamic, hands-on role supporting a diverse fleet of heavy equipment across multiple brands and applications, including excavation, site servicing, and aggregate operations. This position is primarily field-based (approximately 75% mobile / 25% shop) and comes with a fully equipped service truck. Requirements

  • 421A Heavy Equipment Technician certification (required)
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience repairing heavy equipment
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work efficiently to industry-standard repair times
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude and strong work ethic
  • Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Own set of tools, maintained in good working order
  • Physical ability to lift and handle heavy components throughout the day

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service, and repair a wide range of heavy equipment across multiple manufacturers (primarily Komatsu, CAT, and Deere)
  • Perform both preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs in the field and shop
  • Accurately document all work performed, including time, parts used, and detailed notes (complaint, cause, correction, and recommendations)
  • Operate independently in a mobile environment, managing workload, prioritizing repairs, and minimizing equipment downtime
  • Maintain and organize the service truck, ensuring it is clean, stocked, and in good working condition
  • Uphold a safe and organized work environment, both in the field and in the shop
  • Build strong working relationships with team members, supervisors, and external suppliers
  • Follow all company health & safety policies, training, and reporting requirements
  • Work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
  • Support additional shop or field tasks as required
