About The Position

This role is responsible for the maintenance, service, repair, and modification of the mine's heavy mobile equipment (HME) fleet, ensuring maximum availability of these critical assets. The work involves a variety of systems including hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, or electronic. The position requires the ability to work outdoors year-round, with frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching, and the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Valid driver’s license
3+ years mechanic experience
Working knowledge of various techniques for removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories.
Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to HME.
Able to use basic tools such as wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, brake tools, and screwdrivers.
Able to use test/measurement devices such as feeler gauges, depth gauges, circuit testers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
Able to read and interpret parts’ lists, manufacturer’s repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
Familiarity with cranes, hoists, and rigging techniques.
Must wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves, hardhat, steel-toed boots, and safety eyewear as well as other as-needed PPE such as fall protection.

Familiarity to the mine’s HME including hydraulic shovels, excavators, wheel loaders, track dozers, haul trucks, motor graders, drills, and various other support equipment.

Responsibilities

Ensures compliance with company preventative maintenance practices/service schedules for operating efficiency.
Performs service tasks such as changing oil, adding fuel, steam cleaning, and changing parts like wiper blades and filters.
Examines parts for damage or excessive wear.
Cleans, lubricates, and performs routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
Assists in the complete overhaul and rebuilding of major components (engines, transmissions, radiators, etc.).
Operates and inspects machines to troubleshoot defects.
Assists in diagnosing faults using engine diagnostic equipment.
Repairs and replaces damaged or worn parts, including seals, wiring harnesses, sensors, pumps, and various engine components.
Adjusts voltage and current control units, engine idle, brakes, transmission linkages, battery cables, and engine components.
Assists in dismantling and reassembling heavy equipment.
Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly.
Installs after-market devices.
Fabricates and installs safety devices such as guarding, handrails, and catwalks.
Checks the function of auto-lube and fire suppression devices.
Performs HSEQ inspections, interactions, and reporting.
Achieves and maintains personal and company compliance with HSEQ standards, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties and functions as needed.
