The Novelis Bay Minette team is seeking a Mobile Equipment Shop Technician to perform inspection, preventive maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of mobile and off-road equipment supporting plant operations. This role includes day-to-day leadership and work coordination within the mobile equipment garage while performing hands-on maintenance. The position ensures safe and reliable equipment availability for continuous operations across various plant areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience maintaining and repairing mobile, diesel, or industrial equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diesel and/or gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Ability to work assigned shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on mobile equipment including, but not limited to: Forklifts, Mobile Cranes, Manlifts, Personnel Carts, Pickup Trucks, Fuel Trucks, Sweepers, GLAMAs, and other on-site Mobile Equipment.
  • Act as a working lead by providing technical guidance and work direction to assigned mechanics.
  • Promote safe work practices within the garage and field service environment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, fuel, brake, steering, drivetrain, and emission systems.
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, rebuild, and reassemble equipment and components in accordance with OEM standards.
  • Determine vehicle and equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, installing component and part upgrades.
  • Correct vehicle and equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling and replacing major assemblies or components.
  • Verify equipment performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
  • Maintain vehicle records by documenting services and repairs.
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure equipment meets Plant Operational standards.
  • Maintain organized work areas and complete repair logs/documentation.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, repair manuals, and technical diagrams for maintenance.
  • Coordinate and prioritize repair and preventive maintenance activities based on operational requirements.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and implementing preventive maintenance schedules for all mobile equipment.
  • Ensure operator maintenance and cleanliness standards are communicated and maintained.
  • Order, receive, track, and return parts and supplies for assigned work.
  • Coordinate and monitor outsourced service and repairs with approved vendors.
  • Verify vendor work quality and completion.
  • Accurately document labor hours, parts used, inspections, and repairs.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
