About The Position

The overall function of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road and bridge maintenance/construction. This Position is located in District 62, Livingston Parish, Unit 530 (Greensburg Maintenance Unit) , of the Department of Transportation & Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision as well as to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. This is an outdoor, physically active role that may involve varying weather conditions, shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency call-outs depending on assignment.

Requirements

  • No experience or training is required.
  • Class D, Chauffeur’s License will be required upon appointment (for MEO 1).
  • Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment (for MEO 2 and MEO 1/Heavy).
  • Reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy and specialized equipment used in road and bridge maintenance
  • Assist with construction, repair, and upkeep of highways and bridges
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
  • Support traffic control, cleanup, and emergency response activities
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, loading materials, and using hand and power tools
  • Assist or guide lower-level operators as needed
