About The Position

The Fifth Louisiana Levee District's primary purpose is to maintain levees along the Mississippi River. The district includes portions of East Carroll, Madison, Tensas, and Concordia Parishes. The total length of the levee system is 355 miles, 213.8 miles of mainline levee and 93.1 miles of Red River backwater levee, 14.9 miles of back line levees, and approximately 6.3 miles of spur levees. The height and width of the Mississippi River Levee and Berm system within the Fifth Louisiana Levee District make It the largest Levee District in the state in total number of surface acres to maintain. The Mobile Equipment Operator 2 performs skilled operation of mobile and farm equipment in support of levee construction, maintenance, inspection, and flood-control operations. This role carries a higher level of experience and responsibility, requiring independent judgment and consistent adherence to safety and operational standards while supporting the Louisiana Levee District’s mission.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in mobile equipment operations.
  • Proficient operation of mobile and farm equipment used in levee and maintenance activities
  • Strong knowledge of safety practices, equipment care, and routine maintenance
  • Ability to follow work plans, understand instructions, and make sound decisions in the field
  • Dependability, teamwork, and effective communication with supervisors and crew members
  • Flexibility to work outdoors in varying conditions and respond during emergency or high-water events

Responsibilities

  • Operates field tractor with bushhog mower on levee.
  • Maintains tractor mileage.
  • Maintains and performs minor repairs to the tractor for maintenance necessary to keep equipment clean and in good working order.
