About The Position

Louisiana State University of Alexandria is a publicly supported institution that provides undergraduate level college education to the citizens of Central Louisiana. The university is a unit of the LSU System and operates under the auspices of the Louisiana Board of Regents. LSUA is located in Rapides Parish. This position involves operating mobile equipment such as tractors, dump trucks, vans, stake-body trucks, flatbed trucks, buses, forklifts, and rollers to accomplish transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks. The role requires general supervision and may involve functional supervision over lower-graded personnel. It differs from lighter equipment operator roles by the requirement to operate larger, more complicated equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications for Mobile Equipment Operator 1: No experience or training is required.
  • Minimum Qualifications for Mobile Equipment Operator 2: One year of experience in mobile equipment operations.
  • Must be able to operate field tractor with power ratings up to and including 52 horsepower; tractors may be equipped with attachments such as bush hogs, belly attachments, blades, loaders, hoes, etc.
  • Must be able to operate field tractors with gang mowers up to eight feet across.
  • Must be able to operate dump trucks with rated capacity of six yards or less.
  • Must be able to operate vans and stake-body or flatbed trucks with load ratings over one ton and up to four tons.
  • Must be able to operate buses with 12 to 25 passenger capacity.
  • Must be able to operate forklifts with lifting capacity over 10,000 lbs. or lift height over 12 feet.
  • Must be able to operate steel wheel rollers.
  • Must be able to transport patients, students, workers, or other persons between homes and institutions, on trips on and/or off institution or agency grounds.
  • Must be able to operate auxiliary equipment such as asphalt kettle, mud jack, concrete mixer (over two bag capacity), air compressor, jack-hammer, etc. as required.
  • May be required to operate any equipment enumerated for the Mobile Equipment Operator--Light when necessary to accomplish work objectives.
  • Must be able to make minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.
  • Must be able to operate front end-loaders, dump trucks, and other equipment in the maintenance and repair of railroad tracks.
  • Must be able to operate forklift to transport, load, unload and store supplies and equipment.
  • Must be able to operate and maintain front-end loader and box blade attachment.
  • Must be able to operate and perform preventative maintenance on ALL lawn equipment.
  • Must be able to operate weed-eaters, edgers, blowers and additional handheld power equipment.
  • Must be able to operate commercial mowers.
  • Must be able to operate tractor to pick up trash from campus buildings and empty into dumpster behind Facility Services building.
  • Must be able to operate golf cart to pick up campus mail from mailroom and deliver to various departments on campus.
  • Must be able to perform various mechanical work on all equipment at Facility Services including but not limited to all tractors, lawn mowers, power equipment and all vehicles in the fleet, including inspections and oil changes.
  • Must be able to operate trucks with trailers for hauling materials, equipment, and supplies on and off campus.
  • Must be able to operate field tractors with power ratings over 52 horse power; tractors may be equipped with attachments such as bush hogs, belly attachments, blades, hoes, loaders, etc.
  • Must be able to operate field tractors with gang mowers over eight feet across or slope mower.
  • Must be able to operate dump truck with rated capacity over 6 yards.
  • Must be able to operate cargo vans and/or stake body or flatbed trucks with ratings over 4 tons, other than tractor-trailers.
  • Must be able to operate buses with over 25 passenger capacity.
  • Must be able to operate winch trucks, A frame trucks, aerial back lift trucks, pole trucks, and/or trailer.
  • Must be able to operate sign truck.
  • Must be able to operate BOB-CAT tractor.
  • Must be able to operate garbage or trash trucks with hydraulic loader or compactor.
  • May be required to operate any equipment enumerated for Mobile Equipment Operator 1 when necessary to accomplish work objectives.
  • May be required to perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as installation of guard rail, fencing, fender systems, and cabling at moveable bridges and other structures.
  • Must be able to operate and perform preventative maintenance on all lawn equipment.
  • Must be able to operate weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, pressure washers and additional handheld power equipment.
  • Must be able to operate tractor and/or golf carts to pick up trash from campus buildings and empty into dumpster behind Operations and Maintenance Building.
  • Must be able to operate golf cart to pick up campus mail items and deliver to various departments on campus when needed.
  • Must be able to operate University trucks with trailers for hauling materials, equipment, and supplies on and off campus.
