About The Position

Louisiana State University of Alexandria is seeking to hire a Mobile Equipment Operator 1 or 2. This is a classified position within the LSUA FA - FS - Grounds Supervision department. The role involves operating various types of mobile equipment to perform transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks. The university is a publicly supported institution providing undergraduate education to the citizens of Central Louisiana and is part of the LSU System.

Requirements

  • For Mobile Equipment Operator 1: No experience or training is required.
  • For Mobile Equipment Operator 2: One year of experience in mobile equipment operations.
  • Must be able to operate various types of mobile equipment including tractors, dump trucks, vans, stake-body trucks, flatbed trucks, buses, forklifts, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and user maintenance on equipment.
  • Ability to transport persons between locations.
  • Ability to maintain vehicle records (for Operator 2).
  • Ability to provide guidance to lower graded operators and laborers.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

  • Operation of one or more of the types of equipment enumerated must be the primary, regular, and recurring function of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mobile equipment (such as tractors, dump trucks, vans, stake-body trucks, flatbed trucks, buses, forklifts, steel wheel rollers, auxiliary equipment like asphalt kettle, mud jack, concrete mixer, air compressor, jack-hammer) to accomplish transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks.
  • Operate field tractors with power ratings up to and including 52 horsepower (for Operator 1) or over 52 horsepower (for Operator 2), potentially equipped with attachments like bush hogs, belly attachments, blades, loaders, and hoes.
  • Operate field tractors with gang mowers up to eight feet across (for Operator 1) or over eight feet across or slope mower (for Operator 2).
  • Operate dump trucks with rated capacity of six yards or less (for Operator 1) or over 6 yards (for Operator 2).
  • Operate vans and stake-body or flatbed trucks with load ratings over one ton and up to four tons (for Operator 1) or over 4 tons (for Operator 2).
  • Operate buses with 12 to 25 passenger capacity (for Operator 1) or over 25 passenger capacity (for Operator 2).
  • Operate forklifts with lifting capacity over 10,000 lbs. or lift height over 12 feet (for Operator 1).
  • Operate winch trucks, A frame trucks, aerial back lift trucks, pole trucks, and/or trailer, sign truck, BOB-CAT tractor, garbage or trash trucks with hydraulic loader or compactor (for Operator 2).
  • Transport patients, students, workers, or other persons between homes and institutions, on trips on and/or off institution or agency grounds.
  • Provide guidance to and oversee work of lower graded operators and laborers, as required.
  • Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.
  • Operates front end-loaders, dump trucks, and other equipment in the maintenance and repair of railroad tracks.
  • Operates forklift to transport, load, unload and store supplies and equipment.
  • Operates and maintains front-end loader and box blade attachment.
  • Operates and performs preventative maintenance on ALL lawn equipment.
  • Operates weed-eaters, edgers, blowers and additional handheld power equipment.
  • Operates commercial mowers.
  • Operates tractor to pick up trash from campus buildings and empty into dumpster.
  • Operates golf cart to pick up campus mail from mailroom and deliver to various departments on campus.
  • Performs various mechanical work on all equipment at Facility Services including but not limited to all tractors, lawn mowers, power equipment and all vehicles in the fleet, including inspections and oil changes.
  • Operates trucks with trailers for hauling materials, equipment, and supplies on and off campus.
  • Oversees and assists with loading and unloading of vehicle if required.
  • Maintains vehicle records of trips made (mileage, oil and gas consumption, etc.).
  • Operates chainsaws, pressure washers (for Operator 2).
  • May perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as installation of guard rail, fencing, fender systems, and cabling at moveable bridges and other structures (for Operator 2).
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
