About The Position

The Pontchartrain Levee District (PLD) is seeking a Mobile Equipment Operator 1 - 2 (CPG) to join their team. The PLD's mission is to maintain existing levee systems, improve protection levels, and anticipate and address weaknesses in the system. This role is crucial for the care and maintenance of levees within the PLD's jurisdiction. The agency has a minimal personnel turnover rate due to a pleasant work environment and leadership. There are opportunities for advancement within the organization. The PLD has served the public for over a century in various capacities, including levee maintenance, repairs, and project permitting, with a continued mission to protect life, property, and critical infrastructure.

Requirements

• No experience or training is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate zero-turn mowers
• Operate field tractor with power rating over 98 hp, potentially equipped with attachments such as bush hogs, belly attachments, blades, hoes, loaders, etc.
• Operate tractor with gang mowers or slope mowers
• Assist mechanics with minor repairs to tractors/mowers
• Assist with fueling and greasing of tractors/mowers
• May be requested to operate any equipment enumerated for a Mobile Equipment Operator 1 when necessary to accomplish work objectives, such as cutting grass with a swing blade around levee station markers and fence lines; using a chain saw to clean levee servitude of trees and bonfire residue; cleaning debris from the levee crown, levee toe, and levee ditch, including trash (paper, wood, plastic, tires, etc.) and residue from yearly bonfires.
• Perform other duties as described by a supervisor to operate any piece of equipment or accomplish a designated duty.
