Role Summary An established performer who consistently applies software engineering principles to business contexts, leads small, well-defined projects and continues as a supporting player on complex projects, and actively identifies inefficiencies in existing software.

Requirements

  • Developed software in an agile team environment.
  • Built, published and monitored apps on the Google Play Store
  • Has a strong understanding of Kotlin and/or Java
  • A good understanding of Android app architecture patterns (e.g. MVVM, MVP, MVI) and can explain the pros and cons of each
  • Experience building modern UI with Jetpack Compose
  • Familiarity with core Android components and libraries (e.g. Jetpack, Activities/Fragments, Coroutines, Room) — or comparable equivalents
  • Is comfortable translating design wireframes to workable proof of concept code
  • Is comfortable navigating API contracts like REST or GraphQL
  • Understands how projects fit together within their team.
  • Understands moderately complex systems.
  • Understands testing and monitoring tools.
  • Understands how to debug and fix issues using the monitoring tools available (e.g. Crashlytics, Play Console vitals)
  • Good understanding of how to write unit tests and unit testable code (e.g. JUnit, Espresso)
  • Understands how team goals fit a business need.

Nice To Haves

  • experience integrating or contributing to open source code
  • Feels comfortable challenging authority/the status quo.
  • Proactively asks challenging questions when empowered to do so.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and tests standard Android applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements.
  • Applies software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, and modular with good naming conventions.
  • Applies knowledge of API/Schema design principles to solve data requirements for Android experiences.
  • Helps coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues.
  • Thinks broadly and understands how, why and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization.
  • Completes tasks and/or provides data to support implementation of holistic solutions that forge linkages between structure, people, process and technology.
  • Applies formal training methods to current workload.
  • Proactively reports clearly on current work status.
