The Mobile Medical Driver is responsible for driving our 30 foot mobile clinic to and from community locations (shelters, housing communities, high schools etc), parking in busy, urban settings, performing the set-up and take down activities, including any necessary cleanup of the site as well as all vehicle maintenance (oil changes, taking MMU in for repairs, gas fill-up, sewage disposal, washing MMU and basic repairs). Additional duties include, keeping detailed logs of vehicle maintenance, participating in staff meetings, checking patients in and out, and representing the organization in meetings with community partners and interactions with patients. The Driver is the first face most of our patients will see when they come to our mobile clinic. The ideal candidate gets along well with various groups of people, treats everyone with respect, has a heart for under-served communities, is able to diffuse tense situations, and is comfortable translating for Spanish-speaking patients.

Requirements

  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people, and provide leadership and support to staff members and volunteers
  • Self directed, reliable, honest and flexible.
  • Organized and professional, able to keep accurate and detailed logs of vehicle maintenance, and represent our organization in a variety of environments
  • Have experience driving an RV or comparable large vehicle
  • Hold a current valid driver's license issued by the State of California, with an excellent driving record
  • Have experience in vehicle maintenance
  • Comfortable acting as a security guard when on location

  • Comfortable translating for Spanish-speaking patients

Responsibilities

  • Drive mobile vehicle to designated location(s) for the day
  • Set up and take down the exterior as needed including awning, signs, tables and chairs, etc.
  • Welcome potential patients as they arrive and help create a warm and inviting atmosphere
  • Assist with facilitating patient flow, helping patients fill out forms, guiding patients into lines, etc.
  • Perform pre-trip and post trip inspection of vehicle
  • Perform a daily maintenance check that includes filling the fuel tank, airing the tires, maintaining all fluid levels, and delivering the vehicle for scheduled servicing
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle inside and out. Regularly wash outside of vehicle and be sure that all debris and litter has been removed at each off-site location before opening mobile unit for services
  • Dispose of all waste by dumping it in the applicable receptacle per OSHA and MMU guidelines.
  • Stay aware of surroundings and alert team to potential security threats
  • Diffuse difficult situations and calm disruptive guests when necessary
  • Monitor the security cameras on a consistent basis throughout the day
  • Lock MMU when not in use and keep keys in a safe location
  • Take special caution when driving during unfavorable weather conditions such as wind or rain.
