About The Position

WMTV 15 News is hiring a weekend MMJ to join their award-winning newsroom. This is a TV-first position, but digital cannot be an afterthought. The ideal candidate will be a visual storyteller who thrives on breaking news and has a weekend warrior spirit. This role involves owning stories from the Capitol to southern Wisconsin, gathering content with social and digital platforms in mind, filing in real-time with daily social content including vertical videos, developing and maintaining sources, and contributing story ideas daily for both broadcast and digital audiences.

Requirements

• Strong editorial judgment, especially in breaking news situations
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines simultaneously
• A digital-aware mindset: you think about your audience on every platform, not just the one watching at 6pm
• Excellent writing skills: tight, active, conversational broadcast copy
• Self-motivated and dependable; weekends require someone who leads without being managed
• Desire to win, positive attitude, and ability to reflect and apply feedback
• Flexibility to work 5 days/week including Saturday and Sunday, a combination of dayside and nightside shifts, plus overtime for breaking news or special coverage
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive a company vehicle
• Must be able to carry 35+ pounds of gear, and be experienced in shooting and editing unique content.
• Experience and demonstrated skill matter most.

Nice To Haves

• Journalism-related degree preferred, but not required.
• We do have photographers to partner with on appropriate assignments.

Responsibilities

• Own the story: Shoot, write, edit, and present original news packages and live reports
• Think multi-platform: Gather content with what works on social and digital in mind, not just on air
• File in real time: Deliver daily social content including vertical videos from the field
• Build your beat: Develop and maintain sources across the Madison market and southern Wisconsin
• Spark ideas: Contribute story ideas daily that serve our broadcast AND digital audiences
