General Description: Performs analyses on blood and body fluids to aid health care providers in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of patients. Moderate and high complexity testing may include manual or automated techniques using sophisticated instrumentation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: instrument operation and maintenance, troubleshooting assays, evaluating test results for accuracy, resulting test values in a timely manner, and assisting with interpreting results.

Requirements

  • Graduate or student graduating within six months with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), or Medical Technology (MT). OR Bachelor's degree in related science field plus Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), or Medical Technology (MT), recognized by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent is required within six months of employment.
  • Microbiology experience with plate reading required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs analyses on blood and body fluids to aid health care providers in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of patients.
  • Moderate and high complexity testing may include manual or automated techniques using sophisticated instrumentation.
  • Instrument operation and maintenance, troubleshooting assays, evaluating test results for accuracy, resulting test values in a timely manner, and assisting with interpreting results.
  • Demonstrates competency of all testing procedures assigned during the first six months of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Performs and evaluates quality control daily and calibrations as needed.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on analyzers and equipment according to schedules.
  • Reports results of testing accurately and within guidelines explained in the turnaround time policy.
  • Performs end of shift duties including, but not limited to, resolving pending lists, sanitizing and restocking the work area.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence consistent with hospital-wide and department specific standards.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, cooperation, and respect to internal and external customers alike.
  • Answers phone calls within three rings, with name, department and service-oriented demeanor.
