About The Position

As an integral member of the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center’s laboratory and under the supervision of the Medical Director, Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager, and the Section Supervisor the MLT will perform some or all of the following duties: phlebotomy, clinical laboratory testing in hematology, urinalysis, general microscopy, transfusion medicine, serology, bacteriology, coagulation, chemistry, blood gases to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Requirements

Performs work under general supervision of an MLS or Section/Technical Supervisor
May act as a lead to phlebotomists or peer MLT’s or MT’s with less experience.

A Bachelor’s degree in a biological science and completion of an MT program from an accredited college OR an Associate’s of Science degree and completion of an MLT program from an accredited college.
A minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited institution that at a minimum, include 24 hours of science courses and have completed a clinical laboratory training program to include clinical practicum hours.
ASCP, AAB, or AMT certified

Nice To Haves

A minimum of two years of hospital laboratory related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Adheres to all policies, procedures, and regulations when collecting samples for testing.
Performs testing and analysis of biological samples as requested by the provider and in accordance with all regulatory guidelines.
Performs quality control for all procedures at the required intervals. The QC results are to be verified as reading within acceptable limits and this should be documented.
Corrective action and troubleshooting should be done when necessary and also documented correctly.
Communicates quickly and clearly to providers or nurses any critical values or markedly unusual test results.
Communicates clearly at shift change to the next lab technician on shift in the department.
Exhibit’s good working knowledge and logic in troubleshooting and repairing instruments.
Assists in maintaining instruments and documents repairs as required. Additionally, reports instrument down time to an MLS and/or Section Supervisor. If one is not available or on site it is reported to the House Supervisor.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Must be detail oriented and proficient with computer and software use.
Ensures the use of AIDET with each patient interaction.
Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability regulation pertaining to all patient health information (PHI).
