About The Position

Labcorp is seeking an MLS Trainee Student Worker to join our team in Nashville, TN. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Labcorp 2026-2027 Medical Laboratory Science Training Program. Student Workers will be based in one of the following locations: Phoenix AZ, Birmingham AL, or Indianapolis, IN. As a Labcorp MLS Trainee Student Worker, you will have the opportunity to rotate through a combination of hospital and non-hospital laboratory settings while learning the theory behind medical laboratory practices. Didactic instruction will be provided virtually while clinical instruction will be provided in-person at clinical base or affiliate locations. Students that complete the program will be provided a certificate of completion. Labcorp School of Medical Laboratory Science is currently seeking NAACLS approval. Students will be eligible to take a national certification examination upon full NAACLS program accreditation approval.

Requirements

Must be accepted into the Labcorp School of Medical Laboratory Science
Completion of all college/university requirements for graduation with a baccalaureate
Individuals with grade point averages of between 2.50-2.75 may apply for admission and will be considered on an individual basis.

Nice To Haves

Science/math and overall cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
Included in the college/university course work must be: 16 credit hours of Chemistry (including Biochemistry or Organic Chemistry)
16 credit hours of Biology (including Microbiology with Lab
1 - 2 years' experience with below courses: Genetics or Molecular Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Immunology, Statistics

Responsibilities

Attend didactic lectures and successfully complete all coursework and related materials in the following content areas: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis & Body Fluids, Immunohematology, Immunology & Molecular Methods, Clinical Microbiology, and Laboratory Operations Management and Education.
Successfully complete clinical rotations and related assignments in the following areas: Phlebotomy, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis & Body Fluids, Immunohematology, Immunology & Molecular Methods, and Clinical Microbiology.
Demonstrate competency of course materials as outlined in each course objective by obtaining at least a 70% in each course examination and an overall 76% or greater overall course grade.
Complete all assigned supplemental assignments and attend all study sessions in preparation for the national certification examination.
Engage in professional development workshops and modules to enhance your business acumen and professional presence.
Perform assigned clinical laboratory testing accurately and in a timely manner according to established procedures working under the technical oversight of a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Perform accurate and timely result entry (through both Auto-verification and manual entry) under the direct supervision of a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist. Ensures data entered manually (QC, patient data, etc) is reviewed by a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist (with review documented) prior to the release of results.
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, documents PM appropriately, makes minor repairs under the direct supervision of a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist and immediately contacts appropriate personnel for problems requiring more complex repairs.
Document all activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance.
Pipette samples and reagents using calibrated and approved automatic syringes, dispensers, and other approved devices.
Record dates of receipt, in use, and expiration for all reagents, kits, controls, and standards used for assigned assays.
Troubleshoot simple assay problems and provides suggestions to management as warranted.
Adhere to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Labcorp, CLIA, CAP, ICH GCP, and other regulatory bodies.
Other duties as assigned within the scope of the student trainee role.
